And about the joke, it's true, it's just a darn pre-historic palmtop feature type computing device.

What do you all expect ? For Rs 500.00 did you all expect that you will have a laptop to run adobe or Java applications? ..Or make Flash presentations or do programming codes? This whole thing would not have been a fiasco if Media here would not have hyped it.International media joined the bandwagon when Indian media went overdrive with this " dream super cheap laptop ".For a rational being this can never be believable. Try to understand that if this device is at least able to open e-books and perform certain other functionalities which your calculator might not be able to ...then that is actually a LOT being executed by a Rs500.00 device.This project is a right effort in the right direction.Its our politicians and corruption at Govt office that shame us everyday...not a computing device for christ sake.

Read this blog post in Gizmodo.. Giz guys were hyping it too.. They sent 2 or 3 mails about this 10$ indian laptop blah blah.. And then i read this..


After the aggressively lame "unveiling" we were all subjected to yesterday, details have finally emerged about the $10 Sakshat "laptop." It's not a laptop! Or much of anything, really.

The thing, as described by the Times of India:
A storage device containing megabytes of data info which can be accessed by a user by connecting this device to a laptop.
Oh. That description sounds an awful lot like a USB drive, observed through computer-illiterate eyes. However, the only picture available of the device shows a small white box with lots of attached cabling, indicating that there's more happening here than simple storage. You know, something exciting, like networked storage! Either way, FAIL.
This whole fiasco was compounded by a few factors: deliberate misinformation by people close to the project, the complete and utter incompetence of the Indian press (we still don't even have a solid idea what this thing is) and the eagerness of Western news outlets to believe that such a product, which would have been dismissed as totally impossible if announced here, was inexplicably plausible because it was coming from the mysterious foreign land of India. Whatever the case, there is no $10 laptop, and there probably never will be—at least not from these guys.

They did kinda gave an insult to Ratan Tata in a corporate sort of doing things about 1 lakh car. Though Ratan tata did manage to get it up, if Mamta Banerjee kept her selfish interest aside and think about the country, Nano would have rolled out long time ago. Nothing different from $10 laptop. Calling it a laptop would be an overstatement, but a cheap portable device for dead basic use is indeed a possibility. Dont expect the conventional processor- mobo- rams- hard drive though . When it comes to innovation, India does become the under dog in such situations. Its only due to lack of thinking "outside the box" for many people irrespective of nationality that eventually leads to a direct slap on the critics' faces.

i hadnt heard this news before & when i had gone 2 my newsstand( i no d guy there) he told my about this 10$ laptop(As he wanted 2 buy a comp & had 2 told me 2 find him 1).
i told him when it comes out u take it(As i coulnt find any1 who was selling there whole PC for 2K)....while back home i thought how is this feasible & practicle....even if u put together the cost of d proccy, hdd, mobo,ram,display, it all come otu 2 be much more then 2K. well he would be disappointed when he hears about this joke!!!!
Even if d govn had got a laptop 4 100$ out it would had been gr8!!!!
